A Prisoner of War snuff shoe with chip carving,nicely shaped hinged lid, inside an old piece of paper saying snuff shoe 1750. These shoes were made by prisoners mainly French whilst in prisons in England. A very similar one is illustrated page 209 The arts and Crafts of Napoleonic and American Prisoners of War 1756-1815. It measures approx 12.5cm in length.
