This is a very small 19th century puzzle ball made from lignum vitae. It is decorated with concentric circles, one of which pushes out to reveal a small compartment. This would have been used to store powder for rouge, snuff or even small coins. Minor losses, mainly to the inside rim of the secret box, when the lid is removed, Works well.
It is one of the smallest examples I have seen.
It only measures approx 2.8cm w.
