This is an early 1800s Georgian Penner - a portable container that was used for storing/transporting writing materials, quills and ink bottle etc.
This cylindrical whitewood container unscrews in three sections. The bottom section still contains the original ink bottle. The main compartment would have been for nibs etc.The sides are decorated with painted bands of red, yellow and black stringing. The Penner features its original green printed label reading ‘A Tunbridge Wells Gift’.
It measures 10.6cm h x 2.8cm w.
