This is an example of a lovely Georgian rosewood nutmeg grater. Nutmeg was expensive and so to own a nutmeg grater was a status symbol.

These small pocket ones were easy to carry around and were used to freshly grate nutmeg into hot mulled wine or on to hot muffins.

This nutmeg grater unscrews at the top to reveal the grater and at the bottom for storage of the nutmeg and to retrieve the grated nutmeg.

It measures 4.3cm h x 4.3cm w.
