An early 19th century treen Go To Bed of fabulous quality. Go To Beds were used to store wax matches inside. When needed one was removed and lit (usually by a striker on the base) and then placed in the lid to give someone just enough light to get upstairs and go to bed hence its name. This one is beautifully turned and of fine quality.
A rare 18th century lidded butter bowl or mealey beg, used either for taking samples of butter to the market or by fishermen or shepherds for taking their rations of butter with them. Sometimes shepherds would bury the bowls of butter to keep it cool.
This has a fantastic colour and patina, the lid does screw on to the bowl but both have a fantastic warp. This is a personal favourite of mine.
A lovely 19th century antique treen snuff shoe with mother of pearl heart inlay to the lid along with brass nail decoration saying LOVE, to the sole more heart decoration and steel toe cap and heel. Clearly a love token given, possibly for a wedding. In Pinto's book Treen and other Wooden Bygones it states that some snuff shoes particularly if they were accurately made with steel sole and heel tips were probably cobblers passing out pieces. Woodworking was an important part of a cobblers trade and miniature lasts were also a recognised passing out piece.
A late 18th/ early 19th century rush light and candle holder on its original wood base, lovely colour to wooden base. Note the incised line to rolled iron candle socket. C1800
A fabulous mahogany desk/ writing box with the two original glass bottles and a full length drawer to front with working key and two side drawers with turned knob handles. Front and back dished top for pens and with its original brass swan neck carrying handle. This really is a quality item with lovely rich colour mahogany used, would look great on a desk, table or in a library to keep stationery and pens in. C1810
